Competent,
Knowledgeable, On-the-Ground Resources
A
charitable organization, Epilogos, which is based in the USA, maintains an
office in San José Villanueva and provides partial support to two former
Peace Corp workers, Mike and Susie Jenkins, who retired to the community,
as well as two local women. They work closely with us and other groups to
provide on-the-ground support and advice. Since June 2011, one of the
women is being funded part time by the Sustainable Villages Program to
continue the Needs Analysis and to provide direct support for the program.
Proven
Salvadoran Rotary Club Partners
The program
participants have worked successfully with 3 Rotary Clubs in El Salvador (Noroeste,
Cuscatlan and Santa Tecla) in the delivery of several projects over the
past 10 years. These Clubs are currently partners in several of the
projects and have agreed to partner on several future projects.
A
Location the Minimizes Travel Costs and Encourages Broader Rotarian
Participation
Donor funds,
whether from Rotary or other organizations and individuals are limited and
need to be applied to the maximum extent possible to benefit those in
need. Choosing a location that minimizes travel expenses maximizes
benefits and also encourages broader Rotarian/volunteer participation in
missions. Only through first hand experience can one fully appreciate the
value of humanitarian efforts. Currently, team members visit 2 or 3 times
a year and the hope is that we can have teams visit at least quarterly.
